Time to catch up on the motoring news.

LRX Concept -

black_lrx_hi_01

One of the ‘prettiest’ cars to come out of the Land Rover group (or if you like the First Pretty car) is the LRX Concept that they have been banding about for a wile now as it appeared at both Geneva and Detroit (in two different colours).

It seems that Land Rover have seen the demand potential for the black_lrx_hi_02car and have given the green light for it to become a production model. It was obvious that at some point the ‘Sport’ monica from the Range Rover Sport would be brought down the range to the Freelander, so please say hello to the Freelander Sport.

The FL Sport is designed to compete in the BMW X1/Audi Q5 segment of the market. It’s thought that it will come with a V6 Petrol option and the 2.2Ltr Diesel (in Europe at least). Let’s hope Land Rover get it as right as the RR Sport, as that has good on road manners, but can still hold it’s own in the muck, oh and LR, don’t chicken out, Make THIS car, don’t do a VW Sciroco.

audi_7_Speed_main Talking of the VW Audi Group, Audi have shown off their first 7 Speed DSG gearbox.

The box will get dropped into a bunch of the Audi range shortly, and after that will see outings in the other VAG cars.

When full details are announced, along with a car with it in, expect we to do another write up, as the DSG is one of my, well pet loves.

The Big Bang Theory

I’ve just bumped into this, it’s great! A comedy for geeks!

I highly recommend you check it out if you like comedy, and have a grasp (even if a basic one) of photons, neutrinos or quarks then it’s worth a go.

Want a GT-R?

nissan-gt-r Well now you can order one.

The UK price is actually better than we all thought, the price being banded about was 60k, but it turns out that the real price is nearly 10k cheaper than that.

UK Prices start at £52,900 for the ‘normal’ GT-R, then we take a step up to the GT-R Premium Edition (auto lights and a Bose sound system) for a cool £54,200, then we have the priciest version at £55,500, called the GT-R Black Edition which will give you Kuro Black paint, gunmetal grey alloys and black leather/pearlsuede interior.

So 53k for a 911 Turbo/GT3-RS beater? sounds like a bargain, or it does right up until you realise that the Japanese pay just over £30k for their ones! but hey.

Pop along to www.gtrnissan.com to put your £3500 deposit down on one.

RIP Gary Gygax

dnd_BasicRule_s Gary Gygax has passed away at the age of 69.

Gary has not been well for a while now, suffering strokes in 2004.

Gary was known mostly for publishing the Dungeons & Dragons from his publisher TSR (Tactical Studies Rules).

Most people will have some form of exposure to his work, either via the original Dungeons and Dragons, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, or any of the various incarnations of the stories that have been made into games or movies.

If you want to pay your respect’s then head over to the Troll Lord forum post.

Audi R8 V12TDi

The Geneva motor show started today, and Audi seemed to want to show the R8 TDi off. However rather than doing what Ford or GM would do, and ship the car they showed off in Detroit to the show, it built another one. This time in Red and black, and it does look good!

I challenge anyone to say that this car is not production ready, if they can just knock together 2 ‘prototypes’ in under a month, then there must be some drive inside Audi to do the Diesel SuperCar.

This car however might not see the light of day, now that Porche have been given the all clear by the VW board to take a 51% stake in the company, will they want a challenger to the Porche 911, that could be considered ‘Green’, well Green for a SuperCar at least.

HD War Over

hddvd51

It seems that Sony have won, Toshiba announced today that they have begun winding down all production of players and hardware.

This is a sad day, as in my personal opinion, HD-DVD was the better format. But hey, I have both, I only have 10 HD-DVD titles, so it’s not cost me the earth at least.

The Microsoft HD-DVD drive for the XBox 360 will just have to make do with the few titles I do have, and hey one of them is Transformers and I have the Bourn box set as well, so it’s all good.

It’s a pity that Blu Ray won though, Sony’s draconian values obviously were liked more by the studio’s than Toshiba’s more open format.

Night Rider 2008 Theme Music

Noticed a few post’s of people asking for the theme music for the new Knight Rider.

Giant’s topple the Giants

The odds on favourite’s The Patriot’s took a beating last night to end their perfect undefeated record.

The Giants played better throughout the game, with an obviously better defensive squad, and when it counted, a stronger offensive lineup.

It’s about time we saw a resurgence from the Giant’s, and I am happy for Manning the younger.

Well done Giant’s!

Me New Spaceship

Or car as it’s more commonly know. Welcome to the Civic Type-R GT (they have been given the SpaceShip nickname by their owners).

As you can see, I went for a Milano Red one, now red is usually not my car colour of choice, but it seems to suit the Type-R.

So far it’s been good fun, but not had chance to open her up properly yet, as it’s being run in (more for brakes and tyres etc than engine).

The SatNav/SoundSystem is cracking (it’s an Alpine one that Honda use JFYI), and the Hands Free telephone system seems quite reliable, even if you do have to re-program all the names you want it to detect from voice, as it needs to be trained.

But hey, small thing, and only needs doing once.

So far the only things I’m slightly disliking, the drivers seat is slightly too high, and the AV input to the 7″ screen is behind the dash, so you have to remove dash panels to get to it, but hey it’s actually there for the reversing camera option (no I didn’t spec that).

It has a thirst issue (25Mpg), should get a bit better after it’s run in though.

I’ll post some pictures of the interior, as it’s something to be seen, and one of the reasons I chose the Type-R over the Focus ST, Astra VXR and Golf GTI.
