PSP Modchip

A PSP modchip has been launched, it basically allows you to have 2.x on the PSP, and 1.5 on the modchip with selection at boot time.

Pop along to PSP-Scene for the details.

PSP Media Player

A new good media play has come out for the PSP, PSPlayerMT. Why is it so good? Well it has support for avi, mov, mp4, ogm, mkv, nut, asf, wmv, mp3, m4a, wma, ogg, asf, wav, MPEG1/2/4 video(divx, xvid), Windows media video, Ogg theora, Mpeg audio(MP2, MP3, AAC), AC3 and OGG Vorbis.

The menu system is a bit basic, but that should not put you off, the controls for it are (it’s a Korean app, so I’ll let you know).

Left Shoulder – play from beginning
Right Shoulder – Go to PSPlayerMT Menu
circle – select the file and play
triangle – zoom the video
square – displays info video time and speed
left dpad – fast rewind
right dpad – fast forward
start – pause the video during playback
L1+R1+START- Back to PSP system menu

Download it and have a play…… (official site)

MPH Loader

For those that cannot be bothered or are confused by the new loader from MPH, then download this (12Mb)and pop it into the root of your memory stick. Read the readme files for the relevant info on all the tools.

The pack contains : Aenea decryptor, DecryptPRX, Fastloader07, MPH Firmware launcher, MPH Game Loader 1.01, UMD Emulator 8C.

PSP V3

No sooner has MPH sorted out loading V2, V3 comes along. PSPHacks have some shot’s of the V3 PSP firmware on a device and it looks like there are some decent improvements.

Some of the improvements and new features look to be Sony Music Store connectivity, PS3 Connectivity, Mail, Notepad, Sketchpad, Organiser (including alarm) and enhanced security (with possibly better wireless security support?).

Pop along an have a look for yourself, let’s hope that MPH gets his firmware launcher sorted ;)

MPH FW2 loader for FW1.5

Maxconsole has got a decent list of FW2 compatibility for MPH’s new loader.

Pop along here and have a look how to get your favourite 2.0 game loading

MPH is a God ;)

Looks like he has done it again, MPH has launched a test version of a launcher for 1.5 PSP’s that can run games that require version 2.0 or later firmware (i.e. GTA).

This from his website

"Here the 2.00 game loader for 1.50, see the readme.txt for informations.

This is a demonstration version, the play will stop after 10 minutes, if I did it, it’s to do a little pub for my site, for boost adsense and the donations ;-)

I don’t like to do that but it’s the only means which I found to allow i hope to buy a psp 2.50 to be able to try other programs ;-)

The full version of the loader will be available within one week, it does not matter the results obtained but i hope to be able when same to count on your generosity.

Thank you"

Pop along to the site and get the information on how to get it all working

Pop over to Fanjita’s site for the download.

Custom PSP Firmware

Couple of new things on the PSP front, people are playing with ‘remixing’ firmware, there is a version doing the rounds with some of the PSP 2.0 features.

I’ll attach the firmware and the MPH Launcher to try it out.

Basically install MPH Launcher (version 1.3.7u5 attached below) then unpack the firmware into the relevant folders then launch the MPH Firmware Launcher.

Have fun ;)

MPH Launcher 1.3.7u5
Custom Firmware 1.5 Plus

EDIT: I’ve been asked to make a few things clearer, so here goes (I will make an overview page with terms and definitions but until then)

MPH Launcher :  Allows a 1.5 PSP to run other firmware above the 1.5 firmware, this alows testing. There is still work to do on the app though as it struggles with certain things.

Firmware : What the device uses to run, like the Windows OS on your PC (sort of, PC’s have firmware as well, but that is the best description). The remixed firmware take parts of the 2.x firmware and integrate them into the 1.5 core part of the firmware.

Hope that helps ;)

As there’s nowhere…

Else to put these items, here goes :-

Thats about it, have fun ;)

P.S. Oh yeah, the zip file attached is the opensource XBox360 ISO viewer/extractor.

Gaming Stuff

Ok, some gaming stuff to keep you all updated.

  • Sony have launched PSP Firmware 2.6 for Japan and America, Europe should get it soon. What’s new? Well WMA support (no WMA9 Lossless, DRM or Pro support) and the ability to save DRM’d content to he MSDuo directly from the browser and RSS support.
  • Rhindle over on the GA-Forum has been playing with running Windows applications via the media extender abilities of the XBox 360. Lot’s of things run but some stuff crashes.
  • The European advert for the 360 that is on TV at the moment is apparently not the only one; this one was apparently blocked by Microsoft. It is quite amusing though.
  • Microsoft have already got some downloadable (pay for) content for Kameo available for Christmas (see right).
  • A trailer for Prey on the 360 has been released by 2K Games; it’s based on the Doom 3 engine so should look pretty in HD ;)
  • Not sure why you would want to, but a downgrader from 1.5 to 1.0 has been released for the PSP (Get it here). The nice news on this though is it will allow developers to make ‘custom’ firmware for the PSP as it uses own written code to replace the NAND memory with the v1.0 files. So we could have 2.6FW with all the benefits of 1.5! (Original story
  • Nokia has finally done the right thing and killed the nGage off, about time!
  • EA has released information about the XBox 360 version of Burnout 3

That’s about it for the important stuff, more if I hear/see it.
