GT5 Prolouge

Downloaded it, played through it a bit to get some of the cars and tracks unlocked. Shant bother anymore.

Why you may ask?

The cars are pretty, as much of the trackside stuff is, however the curtain picture for the ‘view’ is rubbish, and looks completely out of place. The frame rate can suffer badly at times when it gets busy in the scene, and not having crash damage is just inexcusable.

However this is not the main issue, the issue that get’s me the most is the lack of a feeling of speed. The cars just don’t feel like they are moving properly. Even if you unlock some of the Group A and B cars they feel like they are moving at a snails pace.

If your a car game fan, then stick with Forza 2 or PGR4, both better titles in my eyes (even if they don’t have the Audi R8 in them).

Also while on a negative note, the online play is just plain awful, when you first start the game you cannot play it online for all intense and purpose, as you only have access to the basic track/car lineup that your single player game allows you. Also not being able to play against people I know is just plain sucky.

Also what’s with the default controller layout? I want analogue throttle and braking, as would anyone with any sense, so sort it out Sony, and while your at it make a controller that will work for people with normal size hands! We are not all 12 year old Japanese boys!

Let’s hope that Sony sort out the issues in this ‘demo’ before the full GT5 game comes out, but in my eyes stick to the Microsoft games (or GT3 if you want to play on the Sony box).

£25 badly spent. But hey, the cars do look pretty!

GTA Final Trailer

The final trailer is out for the latest (and probably greatest) Grand Theft Auto.

I can see what everyone, who is saying that the title does not look Next Gen is saying, however some of the things are great in this trailer.

Yes the game looks not dissimilar to previous titles, but some of the shadow’s are good, as are the particle effects. However that’s nothing to the lip syncing, it’s brilliant!

You can almost read the characters lips, and if this is truly in game footage, then I cannot wait.

Download the trailer.

Aperture Science

This has to be one of the coolest Portal spin off’s I’ve seen so far.

Lego meets GLaDIOS, go check it out. It’s worth it.

Hyundai Step it up

Yup, not often you will hear me say that, but their cars ARE getting better, and this new Coupe just proves it.

It’s a good iteration of their previous car, and with a turbo 4pot and a V6 powerplant with some grunt this time, all going out the back end it’s looking good.

The one thing I still can’t figure out though, is why can American’s not say Hyundai? It’s HI-UN-DY not HAY-UN-DAY…

Motoring News

Time to catch up on the motoring news.

LRX Concept –

black_lrx_hi_01

One of the ‘prettiest’ cars to come out of the Land Rover group (or if you like the First Pretty car) is the LRX Concept that they have been banding about for a wile now as it appeared at both Geneva and Detroit (in two different colours).

It seems that Land Rover have seen the demand potential for the black_lrx_hi_02car and have given the green light for it to become a production model. It was obvious that at some point the ‘Sport’ monica from the Range Rover Sport would be brought down the range to the Freelander, so please say hello to the Freelander Sport.

The FL Sport is designed to compete in the BMW X1/Audi Q5 segment of the market. It’s thought that it will come with a V6 Petrol option and the 2.2Ltr Diesel (in Europe at least). Let’s hope Land Rover get it as right as the RR Sport, as that has good on road manners, but can still hold it’s own in the muck, oh and LR, don’t chicken out, Make THIS car, don’t do a VW Sciroco.

audi_7_Speed_main Talking of the VW Audi Group, Audi have shown off their first 7 Speed DSG gearbox.

The box will get dropped into a bunch of the Audi range shortly, and after that will see outings in the other VAG cars.

When full details are announced, along with a car with it in, expect we to do another write up, as the DSG is one of my, well pet loves.

The Big Bang Theory

I’ve just bumped into this, it’s great! A comedy for geeks!

I highly recommend you check it out if you like comedy, and have a grasp (even if a basic one) of photons, neutrinos or quarks then it’s worth a go.

Want a GT-R?

nissan-gt-r Well now you can order one.

The UK price is actually better than we all thought, the price being banded about was 60k, but it turns out that the real price is nearly 10k cheaper than that.

UK Prices start at £52,900 for the ‘normal’ GT-R, then we take a step up to the GT-R Premium Edition (auto lights and a Bose sound system) for a cool £54,200, then we have the priciest version at £55,500, called the GT-R Black Edition which will give you Kuro Black paint, gunmetal grey alloys and black leather/pearlsuede interior.

So 53k for a 911 Turbo/GT3-RS beater? sounds like a bargain, or it does right up until you realise that the Japanese pay just over £30k for their ones! but hey.

Pop along to www.gtrnissan.com to put your £3500 deposit down on one.

RIP Gary Gygax

dnd_BasicRule_s Gary Gygax has passed away at the age of 69.

Gary has not been well for a while now, suffering strokes in 2004.

Gary was known mostly for publishing the Dungeons & Dragons from his publisher TSR (Tactical Studies Rules).

Most people will have some form of exposure to his work, either via the original Dungeons and Dragons, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, or any of the various incarnations of the stories that have been made into games or movies.

If you want to pay your respect’s then head over to the Troll Lord forum post.

Audi R8 V12TDi

The Geneva motor show started today, and Audi seemed to want to show the R8 TDi off. However rather than doing what Ford or GM would do, and ship the car they showed off in Detroit to the show, it built another one. This time in Red and black, and it does look good!

I challenge anyone to say that this car is not production ready, if they can just knock together 2 ‘prototypes’ in under a month, then there must be some drive inside Audi to do the Diesel SuperCar.

This car however might not see the light of day, now that Porche have been given the all clear by the VW board to take a 51% stake in the company, will they want a challenger to the Porche 911, that could be considered ‘Green’, well Green for a SuperCar at least.
