Virtual Server 2005 SP1 Beta

The latest beta for the Microsoft Virtual Server product is out. New in the SP1 product (but not necessarily in the beta) are :-

  • Support for Intel VT capable Processors (Hardware virtualization support)
Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 includes support for Intel® Virtualization Technology. By default, hardware assisted virtualization is enabled if present. Support for Intel® Virtualization Technology can also be specifically enabled or disabled on a per virtual machine basis by toggling the "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization if available" option in the general properties configuration page. Users should refer to their system’s documentation on how to enable Intel® Virtualization Technology.
  • Virtual SCSI Fix for *nix guest os's
Some users encountered an issue when trying to install certain Linux distributions inside a virtual machine on the emulated SCSI bus. The issue occurred most often with the Linux 2.6.x kernel. This issue has been fixed in R2 SP1 Beta 1.
  • AMD Virtualization Technology (AVT) compatibility
  • Active Directory integration and management features
  • Volume Shadow Service Support
This will allow 'live' backups of running virtual systems

102 movies

Roger Ebert has written a "102 movies you must see before…."

Have a look and see how many of the so called must see movies you have seen. The ones that are chosen for the most part are good, however there is a bunch of titles that should be in there from more recent times, Fight Club is the most recent title on the list (1999), and it's the most recent by a good majority.

What other titles should be on it? There are some amazing movies that have been released in the last 20 years or so. I mean things like "The Life Aquatic" should be in the list of should see movies. It's a masterpiece of both cinematography and story driven comedy.

Desktop Support

This was an internal teambuilding video. The video was meant to be to detail what the desktop support department at work do, we don't use them much (support our own stuff), so we did this instead! Click through for the video

F1 Silverstone Test

Torro RossoAs you all should know by now, F1-Blog is just that. Anyhow I've recently got back from the 1st day of the Silverstone Test and have a bunch of photo's from the session. Head on over for the lowdown.

TVR going the way of their build quality

TVR_Sagaris.jpgNow in the UK the build quality of the TVR (TreVoR) has always been a bit of a joke. However it has got better (sort of) in the last few years. Both the Sagaris and the T350 are certainly better cars all round than some of their earlier creations.

However the news from Blackpool is not good. It seems that the temporary layoffs that happened last week are going to become permanent. It also seems that just before the companies 60th anniversary (formed in 1947) they will become no more. We need someone who has some money to throw into the company to come along and buy off the current Russian 'baby' owner.

We cannot let a true British bulldog like the TVR to go the way of the MG-Rover, it just would not be right.

The Wife

Has eventually decided to use her Blog. Pop over and have a look, I've no idea what she will write about? But she is into Photography and has said she should put some of her photo's up. Who know's but hey I've subscribed to her feed ;)

F1 Results

The Imola GP finished with Schumi on top for the first time this year.

It was certainly a decent (if not brilliant) GP, for all the breakdown head on over to f1-blog where I have done a diagnosis of the GP.
