I just came across this article saying that the production of the Veyron has been upped from 50 to 70 per year to try and cut the current 15 month waiting list.

The price of the Veyron to you or me is a cool 1 million Euro’s, however the rumor is that the cars cost VW a less cool 5 million Euro’s to make.

My question is, how can they go on loosing 4 million Euro’s on every car? even if they do only build 70 cars a year that’s still 280 million a year loss just on maintaining face!

Now don’t get me wrong I love the car, the idea’s and technology that went into making it exist is astounding, but can VW handle those levels of losses? or are they furiously working on getting a money making sportscar to the people who would buy a ‘cheap’ Bugatti (say 100 to 200 thousand Euro’s) that they can make a decent profit on and subsidise the Veyron that way. Selling the cheaper car on the back of the Veyron’s success.

Let’s hope VW get there act together, or else the Veyron could not only be the last ’super supercar’ it could be the last Bugatti
