F1 Weekend

Just a few things on the F1 front.

Prodrive have submitted an entry for the 2008 season, that makes 13 teams now with an application submitted, Bernie says only 12 teams can race, so who will not make it? (oh Minardi have submitted an entry as well).

Davidson (Honda) has again topped the running in Australia in practice one and two. Although the lower temperatures have caused issues with some teams.

Oh and yes, it's on at 3:30am UK Time so set the alarms ;)

Pearl Harbour II

I really don't know how I missed this one, Pearl Harbor II - Pearlmageddon.

It's funny, decently edited, clever FX (for the budget).

Pop along and download yourself a copy (QT Required).

Hive 7

I’ve just come across an interesting little site, Hive7 is a sort of a second life type thing. Why am I writing about it? well it’s all done in the browser! no downloads, no ActiveX’s all javascript and the likes.

It’s really impressive what can actually be done inside the browser if you try hard enough (Thanks to Scrobleizer for the heads up)

Terragen

Before Microsoft used the ‘Vista’ name there was a rendering package that I used called Vista Pro. I had hours of fun playing with it creating alien landscapes and the likes.

Well I have now discovered a good free ‘clone’ of it, Terragen does everything that Vista Pro used to do back in the Dos days, but more as well. If you like graphics, maths or landscapes then give it a go.

Favorite toy

My current favorite toy of the day is Synergy, this neat Little application allows you to share a single mouse/keyboard and clipboard across multiple machines without needing any special hardware. Think of it as a super KVM in software.

It’s not quite monitor sharing for multiple machines as you cannot drag applications between machines (that would be neat). But it’s still brilliant.

If you have more than one machine (or like me have 2 separate KVM’s) then this could help. Now if they could only share monitors themselves via software ;)

American’s

I’m not usually very opinionated (well not all the time anyhow ;)). But it really annoys me when American website’s start complaining and ‘warning’ the American public that petrol prices may rise to $4 a gallon, I’d give my left nut for petrol that cheap!

Dear friends in the USA, please stop worrying about it, and join the rest of us that get raped by the oil companies.

Oblivion Loading?

It seems that some people are having long load issues with Bethesda’s latest and greatest, Oblivion.

There is however a solution, apparently if you hold down the A button whilst the game is loading it will reset the HDD Cache for the game and bring the performance back up to what it should be.

Steps to do this

  1. Pop the disk in the XBox 360 drive
  2. Power off the 360
  3. Power on the 360 whilst holding the A button
  4. Wait until you see the "Bethesda Software" logo

Now if only Play.com would get my copy out to me I can try it! (Oh blatant plug, have a look at Oblivion Blog

MotorSport Weekend

Some good and some bad news from this weekends motorsport.

I’ll start with the bad, IRL (Indy Racing League) had a bad start to the season, losing Paul Dana in a crash on Sunday morning during practice. The crash happened on the exit of turn 2 where Dana unfortunately crashed into the back of the already demolished Ed Carpenter car. My thoughts go out to all of his loved ones.

On a more positive view the MotoGP season kicked off in fine form. The opening race finished with Ducati and Capirossi taking the top step followed by little Dani Pedrosa second, and the American Nicky Hayden on the third step. Where was Rossi? he was unfortunately tagged by Ellias at the first corner and ended up 14th after starting the race over a minute down on the leaders, with a damaged Yamaha. It should make for an interesting season!

The WRC headed for the sun of Spain as well (the MotoGP was also held in Spain). This season sees the battle between Loeb and Gronholm intensify, and now that Gronholm has a car to back him up it looks like it will be interesting. Both of the works Ford’s suffered Turbo failures on day 1 and dropped Gronholm and Hirvonen back in the times, Gronholm did well to battle through the remaining 10 stages with 7 of them being stage win’s. Well done to the Skoda drivers with 3 of the 4 cars finishing in the top 10.

Lexus give the LF-A the go ahead

News from the country of the Rising Sun is that Toyota bosses have given the go ahead for Lexus to make the LF-A.

The 500bhp Lexus supercar was shown off in ‘beta’ form at various shows and with a little luck should go to production un-molested.

Let’s hope the dynamics are as good as it’s looks, they should be as I would hazard a guess that in production form it will share some of the underpinnings of the forthcoming Toyota Supra, which has been testing at the might Nürburgring in recent years.
