With all the information and reviews of Bugatti’s new uber car (as it can officially be called as VW group are the owners) the Veyron 16.4 (full official name) now out and about I thought I may share some of my wonderment of the car with anyone who would like to listen.

I have been waiting with baited breath for this car to make an appearance on this side of the ‘Real Car’ world (i.e. not a show car), and finally it has arrived!

The Veyron’s stats first then, Top speed 400kph (248Mph), 1001PS (987Bhp), 1Million Euros (£840,000), and my personal favourite at 400kph the car will use 1ltr of fuel per kilometre (thats 2.8 miles per gallon!) and you cannot go around any corners as you have to put the car into a special mode that give you only 50kg of downforce.

That said the engineering that went into this car must be amazing, the engine is a thing of joy (to me at least), getting an engine, even one of this displacement to run 1000Bhp and still meet the VW group tolerances is incredible. Getting a gearbox as clever as the DSG to handle that much torque again is amazing. Keeping it all cool (even if i is at the expense of luggage space) must have been a complete nightmare.

Yes the car is a luxury hypercar (over 200Mph) that will be bought by the very rich just to say they have one, but you have got to give it it’s dues, it is an immense achievement by the Bugatti/VW/Audi engineers. Why you ask? because they had to work backward when designing the car as the design concept had already been shown and Bugatti said that was what it would look like, and that it would be capable of 400Kph. So the engineers had to make the engineering fit into something that they could not change!
