The Colorado Kid

I have just finished Stephen King’s ‘The Colorado Kid’ and thought I would share my views on the subject.

The book is published under the Hard Case Crime book series and is not typical King (although it is certainly King).

It revolves around an apprentice journalist who is being told the story of a death/murder/mystery that happened in the 80’s on an island off the Maine coast.

This however in a King style is not all it seems to be. The underpinning’s of the story are not what they seem. There are certain point’s in the book where reality is not of the world the book s set (The Star-bucks reference for example).

I do believe the book has a very mild under current of the Gunslinger world going on in it, not directly referenced, and those that are not King (or DT) fans would probably not see it, however it does explain some of the mystery if not all o it.

I will leave the ending completely un-damaged, suffice to say I thought it was a highly readable book, even if there has been complaints about the ending from some part’s.

Like King says in his footnotes, it is a book that will either be liked or hated, no in between.

I say go read it - [rate 8] - Not King’s best work, but well worth the read.
