F1 merry-go-round
Lot’s of interesting announcements today on the F1 front.
First we have the rumour that Dan Wheldon will be joining either the Williams or the BMW teams next year. Which car he will drive is anybody’s guess? This assumption comes from SpeedTV.com saying that he will not be driving for AGR next year (he won the Indy 500 JFYI).
Then we have the announcement from Japan that Aguri Suzuki will be running a team called Super Aguri F1 and the cars will be known as Aguri Honda’s. The team has bought the old Menard Engineering facility (Old Orange Arrows Team) and there are apparently already 100 workers in the team. The driver lineup is rumoured to be Takuma Sato and probably Anthony Davidson, but there is a rumour that Kosuke Matsuura may be in line for a drive as well making it an ‘all Japan’ team (let’s skip the made in the UK part). Key sponsor is likely to be Softbank, with Bridgstone supplying the tyres. The official launch is to be in January.
In other F1 related news the impressively talented Christijan Albers is believed to have signed for the Midland F1 team on a 2 year deal.
Finally, Franz Tost is said to have joined the Squadra Toro Rosso team. He joins the team from BMW Motorsport.
